Let’s build it!

Today, racism and xenophobia remain two of the main threats to society. In the past, the most heinous crimes against humanity and acts of genocide had racial supremacism and discrimination as their main background. Unfortunately, intolerance, discrimination and hatred based on ethnic or national origin are still very much alive and no country is exempt. A reality as sad as it is undeniable.

In recent times, racism and xenophobia have once again spread throughout the world and the covid-19 pandemic has been a real turning point. Increasing inequalities resulting from the health and economic crisis, along with acts of discrimination and violence based on racism and xenophobia, continue to affect those who are most vulnerable, making them scapegoats for all the ills of society for those who detest and reject the enormous richness and diversity that make up humanity.

In the 21st century, we have yet to combat the social stigma and marginalisation of people of African descent, Asians, migrants and refugees, and indigenous communities across the globe. In the face of those who promote this false racial supremacism and claim a legacy based on the colonial past and slavery, the response must be clear to eradicate all acts of exclusion, marginalisation and intolerance in society.

Let us remember that, above all, human dignity is inviolable regardless of ethnicity, skin colour or country of origin. It is therefore our responsibility to put an end to acts of discrimination and to work for justice, equality, freedom and human rights for all people, whoever they are and wherever they are in the world.

A future without racism is possible.

Let’s build it!
